Topic: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

Right out of the box, I have adjusting settings in both the printer preferences and the Slic3r configurations and it always outputs in the lower left corner of the print bed. I have it set as the soliddoodle6x6 but it refuses to start print at the center 75,75. I can see the printed a trial piece from the factory, thats why I am figuring it is a software setting, not a firmware. Also I have tried multiple stl's and they all end up in the same place.

By printing prefs, you mean  repeatier host?  If not, check there.

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

Yes in the RH preferences. It's as if it thinks its the SD3, it's assuming the center is farther left and down.

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

could this be my issue?

I'm not sure really how to get m machine to "report" back to me.

Well, like you said, the firmware should be fine from the factory (and they printed the spool attachment at the center of the bed).

Just to confirm, you set these values proper in repetier:
http://solidoodletips.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/dump-area.jpg?w=584

This is an excerpt of the gcode I have in my custom gcode field in slic3r, but you can also enter these in the manual control via Gcode -> Send (one at a time):

G21
G28
G90
G1 F3000

And this is what they mean:
G21 ;set mm units
G28 ;home all axis
G90 ;set absolute coordinates
G1 F3000 ;center print head

When you do this, does it center correctly?

If so, double-check your slic3r settings (ignore the actual values in the screenshot, it's taken from the web):
http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0205/3988/files/g13.png?2128

If those are correct then you should add the gcode above to your custom gcode section in slic3r.

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

I'll have to check but now my Y-Axis stepper is spazzing out! It moves freely when unplugged but it will not move at all while in manual mode, just twitches and makes a horid noise. I unplugged the Z axis and plugged the Y motor into it and it does the same thing!

This is such a bummer because I haven't even been able to print anything yet, just problems right out of the box!

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

okay, motor started working again randomly.

But when I do the last command (to center it) nothing happens

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

when I do

G1 X75 Y75

It goes to were it starts to print, so obviously it doesn't know where center is

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

Looks like my gcode snippet wasn't complete (but you figured that out).

When you HOME does it go to the back right corner?

In Repetier-host --> Config ---> Firmware EEPRom configuration, does it have a homing offset?

If not, it does sound like it's worth checking the firmware at this point.  I don't have a printrboard, so I can't help with that, but there are other threads on this forum about that.

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

Okay so I have been contacting support and basically I figured out myself that they loaded Firmware for the SD3 on my SD2. I have been emailing them but all of a sudden they stopped responding to me. Last response was Tuesday and I have been emailing them every day. So back to the forums for help. Does anyone know how to load the SD2 firmware on there? or is it the same? I'm guessing I can just go into the Arduino IDE and change it to a SD2, but I am not sure how to go about that.

Also on a side note, I am getting the Z-Axis banding issue, what is the best fix for this? I have been looking around and there are so many fixes and I'm not sure which one is best.

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

You can go here to get the and download he firmware files.  In the Zip there is one folder for SD2 and SD3

http://www.solidoodle.com/solidoodle-mo … -firmware/

There are some instructions on the WIKI here and there is a few instructions set here but do not have links handy at this point.

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

Okay, they finally contacted me and sent me the firmware, but I'm having an issue with the HID bootloader. I emailed them but no response and after jumping the pins hitting the reset, I get this error:

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

Is that the actual file name of the file that you moved into the BootloaderHID folder?

Re: New Printer SD2 will not center correctly

Yes, Solidoodle2_6142013.cpp.hex is the hex file that Support sent me. I pulled it from the email and place it in the BootloaderHID folder. Is it the wrong one possibly?

It probably is the right file.  I just went through this recently on someones Printerboard.  First time through I came up with the same problem.  The cause was basically a TYPO.  I wasn't using the file from SD and I just hadn't paid attention to the file name.   Could you send me the file they sent you?  I'd like to see if I can load it up.
