what the best slicing program to use for my solidoodle 3?
I need something easy to run like slic3r is on repetier-host, but now there is a new slic3r and I don't know how to use it, and it takes forever to slice things.
I use the latest slic3r (1.0RC3 ) , and have not seen any issues with models taking any longer to slice - except if they are broken STL's to start with, or you have really whacked Slic3r Profile settings (support settings are off, or you have every additional tick box under layer ticked.. which you don't really need all ticked for...
You simply need to replace the slic3r folder inside the repetier-host folder to use it ...
As for using it.. there is a comprehensive manual - you might just have to bite the bullet and read that...

+1 on the latest Slic3r. I toyed around with KISSlicer and Skeinforge...not satisfied with the results.
so I read the manual.
but when I rename the old slic3r folder, and put in the new extracted one from the zip file,
it doesn't look similar to the photos im seeing for slic3r.
what am I doing wrong?
and supports aren't doing anything I set the threshold to 30* on a part that has 45* overhangs still only does support to a certain point.
im so confused with this stuff.
any idea where im stuck.
**this is usually how I am till I figure out the stupid area where im stuck then its breeze from there.

Re supports and the angles - be sure you are choosing the same printer profile you are editing - its an easy and often made mistake (we've all done it....)
Don't use photos as a bench mark - they are most likely for older versions of slic3r, but its not like there are very dramatic changes anyway - maybe an extra tickbox here and there but thats about it... And don't confuse pics of the Platter tab, as that only appears when you open slic3r 'standalone' (as in, run slic3r.exe directly and not from within RH).
What does it say if you open Slic3r configuration manager via RH and then choose Help->About Slic3r ?

It means precisely that. In repetier host, on the slic3r tab, there is various pulldown menus for different Print Setting and Printer Settings... Ensure that you are editing the same profile in Configuration Manager that you have selected on the Slic3r tab of Repetier-Host.
Adrian is right; I've accidentally done it myself. Ensure the profile you're editing is the same one you've selected to slice with.

I don't think there is 'the best' slicer Program.
Slic3r is quite ok and gives you good results, as long as you don't need support.
Kisslicer gives you great support and very precise looking prints.
Knowing this I switch between these two, depending on the problems at hand.
