Topic: Considering purchasing Solidoodle 4

Good day!

Previously I had Makerbot Replicator Dual - but was really unhappy with how proprietary it was. So now Im considering buying Solidoodle 4 - it looks like a good solid printer.

Are there any know problems with it? anything to consider before buying?

I really want to print with wood, ABS and sometimes PLA. Do I need to replace extruder?

Solidoodle 4 isn't any less proprietary, other than the fact they use printrboards. Solidoodle won't even tell you what size bolts are in the extruder.

You don't need to replace the extruder. I'd be careful with the wood filament that's out there, it's not universally well regarded. More like plastic with wood filler.

you need at least a .5mm nozzle to print laywood without clogs.

We have no policy against disclosing the size of screws or bolts.

For the newest extruder:

Extruder Bolts

m3x25
m4x16
2xm3x25
Set Screw m2x5

I believe that covers it.

We tested it here about a year ago. Seemed to work OK. Just didn't look spectacular.
