Topic: why is peek usually? a round part?

Maybe there is a reason for the peek to be round but can someone please let me know why? im having problems with mounting / aligning the peek properly. To me it looks like a square peek (outside) would be easyer to mount and KEEP in the same place.

Peek usually comes as a rod and works well to machine on a lathe.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

.... groove mounts for hotends are also quite well entrenched... so if every hotend practically uses it be it all metal or PEEK I'd suggest there perhaps isn't an intrinsic flaw in the design wink

Okies - should be a fun journey.

I personally would think along the lines that given its the defacto standard, there can't really be that much of a problem with it since so many companies and systems use it effectively all over the world so maybe I should examine what/why/how I'm having an apparent problem since it would seem to work successfully for 10000's of both printers and users before I declared it horribly broken and in need of replacement for a new standard.... But maybe that's just me and my conformist attitude smile

Problem fixed :-) It looked like the filament was jamming because of the peek not in the right place but this was not the issue.

Idid replace the wooden part (I guess this is  the groovemount) of my solidoodle 3 with a aluminium I made on my drillpress. Its keeping up better then the original part made from wood..
