Topic: Latest Firmware availability

Hi Forum

I am a new owner of an SD3 and was looking at updating the firmware on the board.
This is a second hand unit and I am sure it is running an older version plus it has the older
sanguinololu board I believe.

I have read in the forum, on their website and wiki, and yet to find a good source for information
on where is the firmware and how to track the latest and greatest.

Any help is appreciated.

More information: I am using LinuxCNC (aka EMC2) Ubuntu 10 build and successfully installed Repetier Host
using the downloadable package from Solidoodle.com.

It is really bad that such a potentially good product is left to dry with no real good documentation and wiki pages.

Thanks

EDIT 1: Added O.S used and software to be used for 3D Printing.

Do you think the stickied thread at the top might be it?

Re: Latest Firmware availability

Don't get me wrong lawsy, but as much as I was tempted to try your repository
There was no official indication that this is it.

I mean at the end of the day, when you buy a "product" and not just assembling bits and pieces on your
own you'd expect the website for the company to be more elaborate and precise.

Solidoodle's website is not the easiest to navigate and from reading and reading I did find lots of
either old information that is irrelevant or simply misleading to someone who is just starting in the 3D printing world.

And I do software & hardware development for a living so I am not new to tinkering.

With that said, I appreciate all the time you put to fork Marlin and incorporate the Solidoodle specific changes to it.
I will give it a try so thanks in Advance.

Re: Latest Firmware availability

Fadi: Solidoodle don't do any firmware development - they are trying to hire a software developer at the moment. They were in fact shipping the last of the sanguinololu based printers using the community firmware. The new printrboards take the same changes to a very early-2013 marlin...

The 'latest and greatest' is the community stuff - probably the repository I reupdated late last year with the autobed levelling stuff ( http://www.soliforum.com/topic/4236/bet … ll-boards/ ) ... Otherwise you can have the older marlin over here http://www.solidoodle.com/solidoodle-mo … -firmware/ .

Solidoodle dont release new versions of their firmwares... they 'make it work' and then move on...

Re: Latest Firmware availability

My apologies fadi, as Adrian has said it's not clear that your Solidoodle has a version of my hosted firmware on it.

Myself, Adrian and others here keep it updated and feature rich. Solidoodle grabbed a copy at one stage and put it on all their printers, but that was a while ago so the newest version is what Adrian has linked.

Agreed too that the Solidoodle documentation is poor. They rely on the community to do it for them. I imagine this will have to change if they are heading in the 'polished desktop product to compete against Makerbot' direction.

Re: Latest Firmware availability

adrian:
Thanks a lot I'll look into that code tonight hopefully.

lawsy:
I agree, and I understand how difficult it is being a startup, but you can't be a startup and keep
at it two years later, they must expand and must get things rolling. I will do my best to help the
community as well.

And again, I appreciate your involvement in the community, both of you have so many informative posts.

Re: Latest Firmware availability

Thanks guys.
I updated the firmware yesterday and patched mono to accept custom serial speeds.
(didn't want to go to a lower speed for the sake of feeling good about sending the data as fast as possible!)

I gave it a go and all is well.

Now gotta wait up to 2 weeks for Solidoodle to ship replacement parts that are "in stock" ! go figure!!
UPDATE: Solidoodle actually shipped today... wohoo smile

Re: Latest Firmware availability

What parts you waiting for? Have you printed out lawsy's mark 5 extruder from thingiverse yet? If not make sure its the first thing you do is print a couple of copies while you trying out your printer... First couple of months were a nightmare for me now my printer prints a dream most of the time... Although it doesn't have many of the original parts on it anymore

Re: Latest Firmware availability

Staffordknot,
it is on the top of the list, just didn't think I should do it as a first print, especially that I'd love to get a nice clean print for the extruder as I am not sure how bad it'll affect accuracy.

I am waiting for the heating resistor and aluminum build platform.

What other modifications do you recommend?
My plan is to drop in an E3D v5 hot-end as soon as my finances allow to put into this hobby!
