Topic: Test Print Help

So I am trying to print out the spool holder and the first time it came out okay. I changed the microns to .15 and the same thing keeps happening. As the extruder begins to build the cylinder part of the piece it begins to go everywhere. The extruder continues to make circles but not in the right place. See picture below.

Does anyone know what the problem can be?

Check the stl with netfabb for errors.  I had problems like this when I cranked up the speed to 100mm/s,you could try slowing down to around 60mm/s for perimeters.

Re: Test Print Help

What temperature and speed are you printing at?  Try slowing down your max speed and then increasing your temperature a little if that doesn't work.  ABS temperatures are somewhere between 195 and 205, however be wary to go to 205, because if you go much higher than 210, the PEEK in the hot end will begin to melt.

I was printing at 215. I am going to lower it to 205 and try again. Other places I've checked said that ABS should be between 215 and 235.

Re: Test Print Help

Wow!  The Solidoodle stock hot end has the thermistor located on the side of the nozzle rather than in the heating block.  Those temperatures are correct if the heater is in the block.  Hot end replacements such as the E3D will end up using the 215-235 range because the thermistor (temperature sensor) is in the block, however the stock Solidoodle one shouldn't go that high.  I would now guess you have a partial clog, because you definitely would have good layer adhesion at 215.  Does the motor ever click or strip the filament?  When you manually extrude, does the filament immediately curl as it is coming out?

Edit:  Black filament can be tricky to work with since it often is made from the rejected scraps of other filament colors.  If you have any other colors of filament, try those also.
