Topic: why .42mm width? why not .5mm width?

is there a reason why my SD3 is set to .42 extrusion width?  from a modeling standpoint, it would be easier for me to have it at .5mm.  I always try design so my walls/ribs are divisible by the extrusion width, and would be alot simpler if i were using .5mm.  does anyone know if this would cause a problem?

Wouldn't .48mm be correct for the .40 nozzle on the SD3?

ANYWAY I set my perimeters to print at .30 because if I don't, slicer doesn't want to add infill onto small gaps and also 3d lettering. Im not sure what else this small of a perimeter setting will affect...

My SD3:  Clear plexiglass case, case heater, X axis stabilizer, Z axis stabilizer, thumb screws, filament guide, heatsinks on all motors, extruder fan, controller fan, heatsinks on motherboard, Y rod pillow block, USB and Power on/off switch, fully calibrated including trimpot tuning. Am I missing anything?

Short answer: no.

(Google "extrusion width to height" for more)

.30 is smaller than nozzle diameter, however, so probably not a good idea (assuming you have standard nozzle).

So it seems you can use any width higher than .4mm so with .50 you should be ok according to the guide.

Max height of .32mm but .2mm suggested

great info.  the blog post pretty much spells out exactly what i was going for with the extrusion width.  thanks for the replies.
