Topic: Part of the issue resolved...

Hello all-
Well, I added a brim to my project and it worked. Now, I have a new issue. The top of my project is not printing properly. I have noticed that most of the prints I do come out okay, but others that have a top such as this one don't work. I noticed that all the print I do are printed in a by default the way Repetier orientates the object on the print bed. Is the a way, as in this project, top print the object face down? This would eliminate the top from caving in during the printing process.

If you want it to print in that orientation you need support... either manually add it to the model or have slicer add it

Ok, I do not know how to do either one....but I am willing to learn. Is there a link that can show me this information? Thanks.

in the slicer settings there is a section called support material check the box that says generate support material. then click save then slice with your new settings

Or under the 'object placement' tab in Slicer put a value of 180 in the Y field.

Yep, looks like you can flip this (rotate 180 on Y) to eliminate overhangs, so then you don't need support (very rough rule of thumb: overhangs > 45deg need support) which is always better.

Also looks like you can get away with 90 (or is it -90?) rotation on this one -- depending on which way stresses will apply under typical use (if that matters, no idea what this is smile ): strength within layer is about an order of magnitude higher than across layers (again, very rough rule of thumb).
