Topic: Best Software for Solidoodle Products

I am just beginning to get into 3D printing. I just bought a Solidoodle 4 (hasn't arrived yet) and I was wondering what would be the best software to use with it. I've been using Sketchup and have made a couple of things but is this good for Solidoodle? I'm looking for the best software, so share what you guys use and what you think is best.

Thanks!

Re: Best Software for Solidoodle Products

Its not related to a specific printer at all .. so anything you want is the answer to design the model as long as it can produce a mesh and be watertight.

Anyway; its done to death quite extensively in http://www.soliforum.com/topic/13/pleas … ng-design/

Re: Best Software for Solidoodle Products

Don,

It would be good if you said more about what things you would like to create.

The problem with design software is that what is best really depends on your needs. TinkerCAD is good if you don't want to spend a lot of time learning software.  Sketchup is good for more "prismatic" design and semi-advanced things.   There are some high end CAD tools that are really good but likely way too powerful for the typical maker (SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Inventor, etc.)  If you are sculpting, that is a whole other class.

At the end of the day, if the software outputs a good STL file, it should work well with your Solidoodle.
