Topic: Solidoodle at CES

They will probably have more to say on Fri when they talk to Engadget, but check the extruder in this photo-

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Looks metal... could be a Bulldog-type?

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Looks like the idler arm might be printed, with the spring on the left side.  There's a set screw for the groove in the PEEK, so maybe taking it out will be a simple matter of backing out the screw and dropping the hot end.

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Now why can't the actual solidoodle 4 get that.. sad

They need to run out of acrylic stock before switching over.

I wonder how much they have left

Re: Solidoodle at CES

It wasn't shown on the launch photos but there is no reason to assume the new extruder  won't be on the SD4s that are shipping now.

Re: Solidoodle at CES

I would think that if they were shipping with new extruders they would have mentioned it to get more sales and to get people to stop complaining about the little difference between the S3 and S4. I did think it was suspicious that the extruder was conveniently placed out of sight on the launch photos. My S4 is supposed to arrive on Monday so if there is some new surprise on the extruder I'll be back here to post about it. Will probly just make new thread actually but I dout they've changed it...

And you mentioned they are talking to endgadget again? Have any idea what time or what it's about? I hadn't heard this...

Re: Solidoodle at CES

The talk with Engadget is on the Engadget website. I can't post a url but maybe someone else can. Also at work so I can't watch it :( but I will when I get home.

Edit:
Disregard, I guess once its over you cant watch it. Maybe they will post it later.

Re: Solidoodle at CES

I haven't been able to watch the video but I saw a statement in a transcript about a new extruder they've been working on for a while that's supposed to help cooling. I think I read it right. Not sure what that means but still the question is still up in the air whether or not the new 4 will ship with the new extruder or not. Guess I'll find out Monday when I open the box smile

Edit: here is the site I'm getting this from: http://www.tctmagazine.com/ces-news/sol … er-at-ces/

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Thanks for the link. Hope they get the new extruder up and running. I will be ordering one soon, so I hope to have all the latest stuff on it. However it seems the first thing people do is print new upgrades.

12

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Lol yesh those are usually your first prints. I dont know weather to get the bulldog or wait and see if a new SD extruder comes out.. but after i install all the upgrades i printed and sourced parts for its not really a solidoodle anymore haha

Re: Solidoodle at CES

I'm actually kind of surprised they're there.  CES is about the latest and the greatest, and exhibitors usually bring very polished, consumer grade items to display.  I wouldn't have thought Solidoodle would be in that market.  Makerbot, 3Dsystems, UpMini, yes, but DIY type printers...not so much.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Not to kill this thread but in case anybody is wondering, my SD4 arrived and it's still got the acrylic jigsaw sad but on the bright side, I was able to get up and running pretty quickly and am getting good prints

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Adam, it’s good to see you got your printer. There’s not much info on the SD4 here yet, anyway you could post a few pics on how the case is held on (zipties ect.)? Does it look like the same frame as the SD3? Does the exhaust filter work?

Re: Solidoodle at CES

any hose clamps?

SD3, E3D hotend, linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

Re: Solidoodle at CES

I will try to get some pictures up tonight when I get home from work. There are hose clamps in there but I haven't really looked into their function. The x offset thumbscrew is kind of finiky and I'm not sure if ill be able to adjust  it to compensate for the glass bed that I've ordered. I don't know if we should move this to a dedicated thread for the SD4 or not...

18

Re: Solidoodle at CES

Thanks, and yes a dedicated thread sounds good. You will become the SD4 Guru.

19

Re: Solidoodle at CES

yeah man they  should sell that case to sd3 owners...

Re: Solidoodle at CES

ummm just wonder why they would show the SD4 with that but not deliver that to customers, unless they plan a free upgrade.lol Don't hold your breath.

Re: Solidoodle at CES

I wonder if that thermistor is going into the heater block, or just running behind it to the nozzle.

I'm praying but not getting my hopes up for the free upgrade. It would be pretty messed up to give the first say, 50 SD4 owners the old extruder and all the rest the new one

What happened to an announcement? Or was Ian's post and the FB caption it? smile
