Topic: Seriously impressed with my new SD3
My Solidoodle 3 came in last night so I've been pretty much 3d printing non-stop with a little break for sleep last night
.
It took me about 6-10 hours to dial in the Z-offset, extrude rate, and getting the ABS to stick to the platform. For me the trick was Z-Offsest + LOTS of hairspray for a very nice texture on the platform. Heating helped a lot, but the hairspray seemed to make the biggest difference by far. I'm going to try and get an enclosure built tomorrow so I can keep a higher steady bed temperature. Right now I can get it to 110, but it's near impossible to keep it much above 100/105 degrees. It tends to fluctuate up and down 5 degrees during print if I set it above 105 which can't be good for adhesion. At 100 bed temp, 0.7 extrude rate, 200 first layer extrude, 195 extrude, for rest I'm getting some really good 0.1mm prints and 0.3mm prints. I'm going to setup a profile for 0.2 prints and see what I can get. Most of the objects I'm going to be printing are less than 1inch in all dimensions with walls 1mm in thickness (think connectors) that fit together. Took some model tweaks to remove need for supports and to add tolerance levels in but now I'm getting some really nice fit together parts less than 24 hours after receiving my SD3 in the mail. Everything arrived pre-calibrated from the factory (minus tuning of Z-Offset) so really impressed it held up during shipping! I'm pretty impressed with what this sucker can do with some fine tuning, and I'm just getting started!
