Re: Best filament prices

Apologies for the thread bump. On further usage of the Seacans filament I ran into a bump in the filament which caused the filament to stop feeding into the hotend. Fortunately the E3D hotend is resilient to this, and no clogging occurred. I might work on some kind of mechanism to quickly respool filament from one spool to another, running it through a series of sensors to ensure the filament diameter is within spec, and no major blockages occur.

It might even be as simple as a 1.75mm sized 'hole' on the end of a microswitch, connected to a motor. Motor runs unless the microswitch is triggered (by anything bigger than 1.75mm).

Re: Best filament prices

Has anyone tried the filament from folgertech it is $19.00 a kilo and shipped express from US. I got mine in two days after ordering. They also carry parts for upgrades and stuff. But the filament seems pretty good right now. Takes a little more temp but comes out clean and gives a good print.

Nothing wrong with the thread bump, but this is the wrong subforum for filament discussions. http://www.soliforum.com/forum/9/buyselltrade/ has several filament threads going already.

This is a running topic on filament prices and quality, and aonomus' post was a follow up of his/her previous post.  I see no better place for it than where it is.

Re: Best filament prices

Not taking price into account, is there any consensus on who is considered to have the absolute best quality ABS?

Perhaps the mods could move the thread to a better place, or even create a sub-forum for materials discussion.

I just put an order in with Makibox. They are in Hong Kong so my average price was $22/kg shipped. I says 4-6 week lead time plus there is shipping. I will let you know around August.

Just wanted to make sure to update this. It has been 5 months and 7 Days since placing this order and still have yet to receive anything. My last correspondence was as follows:

Re: Best filament prices

Not really concerned about the bottom dollar price, but overall quality. Many of these places have little to no quality checks. Since composition and diameter directly effect part quality, can anyone vouch for a company that goes above and beyond?

For the price the http://www.filastruder.com/products/filastruder-kit

Looks pretty cheap and would pay for itself pretty fast.

Pellets:

I'd rather extrude it myself and do my own quality control. It would surely pay for itself in the long run.

Re: Best filament prices

Does anyone know good filament suppliers from china?

I ask that because buying from US and shipping to my country is very expensive.
Shipping from china sometimes is cheap or free.

This forum is FULL of Chinese distributors, but I don't think any of them ship free.

Re: Best filament prices

I was thinking about:

http://www.aliexpress.com/
and
http://www.alibaba.com/

There are a lot of options there and some of them ship free or cheap but I did not try any of them and I do not know about the quality.

Shipping from US could reach $60 for one spool with some reaching $108 like nylon 618 from amazon!
So, ChiN is good choice for me but I need quality.

Re: Best filament prices

Just a FYI to Canadians if its not obvious,

if your buying from Ebay, find the guys selling the material Cheap, and charging for shipping, because we dont pay duty on the shipping part.

I found a guy on Ebay selling a 1kg spool for 19$, and they seem to work well. I am going to be picking up a Order of PLA because I havent figured out ABS yet

65

Re: Best filament prices

Has anyone got any PLA from Makibox yet? Seems like they have big problems to get orders out.

Re: Best filament prices

Octave seems the standard for quality, and price on most filament and kapton tape but other stuff is made for their 3d printers only with no intrest in catering to others like Slolidoodle for things like glass plates etc. also some odd colors/types of filament need sourced out elswhere. I just ordered some from 3 sources will report how it does later.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: Best filament prices

Not sure if this needs it's own thread but...

My printer : Solidoodle 2 Pro, fully enclosed

Sainsmart ABS
Bed 90 : Ext 205
White, Purple, Green- perfect prints

MonoPrice ABS
Bed 90 : Ext 205
White, Black - perfect prints

MonoPrice PLA
Bed 60 : Ext 175
Red - Good prints until clogging, have not tried again

KBell ABS
Bed 90-105 : Ext 190-215
Orange, Clear - unable to make it work get 5 good layers at best before it starts stripping and balling up

Bed 90 : Ext 210
Pink - ok prints on smaller items, some layer adhesion issues and stringiness, not usable for large prints

Solidoodle ABS
Bed 90 : Ext 205
White - Perfect prints
Blue - Layer Adhesion, stringing, brittle prints

I'll have some more brands to test soon.

Re: Best filament prices

I would like to put it on the record that I have just received this order. Not sure of the quality as my printer is out of commission until I get through this renovation. I don't know what this means for orders placed now but at least they made good on my order after the better part of a year.
