Topic: Make Magazine 2013 3D Printer Shootout

I was surprised to see the solidoodle rate so low! Are other printers really that much better?

Lol... Buyer Beware.

Buyer Beware

These printers did not perform well, arrived broken, or broke during the testing.

There may be a printer out there engineered so that a trip on a UPS truck doesn't throw it totally out of calibration. I'd certainly rate it higher if price was no object :-).

Man. MAKE magazine is all aboard the MBI hype train.

I wonder what went wrong with the SD3 that made them rate it so poorly when it costs 1/4th of the price of the MB...

Re: Make Magazine 2013 3D Printer Shootout

They may have gotten a z rod that was drilled by their blind machinist.  Last year the problems they had with their prints would have been solved with a couple of simple adjustments in Slic3r or Skeinforge.  This year they have stock profiles to work with, and hopefully enough 3D printer experience that the bad review isn't due to the print not sticking to the bed.

I thought there would be some Deltas, but they only listed one which was a prototype.  SeeMeCNC is shipping deltas so they could have at least picked up one of those.

That shockwatch looks cool, but even cooler would be photoshopping some labels and taping them on without putting the sensor inside.   Popular Mechanics shipped accelerometers around the country to test the handling of several carriers - http://www.popularmechanics.com/technol … r-packages

They found that packages marked fragile really did get rougher handling.

soo sad to see solidoodle rated this poorly... but for half of the price... it's still pretty good...
but i wonder why didn't solidoodle 2 wins the value.. for 500 it's still a pretty good value printer
