Topic: Banding

So I have tried all of the mechanical fixes for banding, but it seems that the best results come from the software fix that I have read on. Being only moderately software savy, It is like reading Chinese to me. Is there someone who can make a tutorial for the average joe on how to go about setting this software mod up step by step? The one I am referring to takes into account the banding pattern and uses the software to counter act it.

Re: Banding

What have you done mechanically? I can assure you that banding is 99% hardware related and can absolutely be eliminated using a hardware fix. 90% of your banding will go away with M5 threaded rod and a slopnut, 95% with M3 and a slopnut, 100% with the thread less ballscrew fix.  Check the wiki for the full list of mods marked as z-axis replacements.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

Re: Banding

O.K. I did your slop nut mod (which was genius by the way), checked for equal tension on the belts, have the spring loaded tensioner on the print head, level bed, and set the extruder stepper motor steps correctly. This is a print last night. Better, but the banding is still there and I am still getting these void spots on the walls. Can someone analyze this print and give me their general thoughts? Why am I getting the voids? On this print I am getting 1.2mm walls instead of the 1mm that I am supposed to get through the test print. I am wondering if that is due to the banding causing a thicker measured wall though. Thanks

Re: Banding

Looks like your 5/16" rod was drilled off center.  The voids are where the layer starts. Turn adjusting your retract settings in slicer. printer settings tab> extruder 1> Retraction Length : make this .5 or something like that. also, you could try add extra length on restart.
