Topic: From the greater Boston area

Hello everyone,

Signing on from the Boston Massachusetts area, I have a SD3 purchased a few months back and proving to be a real workhorse. This forum has been an extremely valuable source of information for getting the SD3 dialed in producing consistant prints, pretty much everything I've needed info on has been either here in the forums or in the Wiki, great job guys!

Having come from the world of working in metal with lathes and mills the 3D printing process is a bit of a departure and big shift in thinking about how to design and make a part. Things you can easily do in one medium do not necessarily translate well to the other, I constantly find myself having to stop and consider if what I'm working on can be printed as designed or if I need to be a bit more creative to make it practical to print.

I also have an addiction to radio control flight, mainly multirotors, and the biggest reason for purchasing the SD was to be able to make parts for the aircraft. So far I've been quite successful in being able to make everything I've wanted or needed to, right up to an entire frame ready for installation of electronics. It flys extremely well, better even than the original design it was based on, just not sure about the ultimate durability of the ABS plastic. On the other hand repairing crash damage is easy, just print more parts!
