Topic: Want to up my game.

Hey all,
I've been wanting to up my game and get a dual extruder printer. I like the Makerbot replicater 2X but not the price.
I also found this printer http://jasonlcurby.com/flashforge-creat … er-review/ which is a knock-off of the replicater but $1000 cheaper.
So here is my question. If you wanted a dual extruder printer, what would you get?
I do want to be able to do PLA and ABS at the same time for water soluble support. (1 side = ABS, other side = water soluble PLA)
Thanks.

Re: Want to up my game.

PVA is water soluble, and from what I've heard it is tough to get ABS to stick to it.  Also you have to be really careful about humidity.  A better alternative seems to be HIPS (high impact polystyrene) which dissolves in limonene without affecting the ABS.  Leaves a fresh lemony scent afterwards apparently.

You could consider adding an extruder to the SD.  A RAMPS, an extra motor, an extra driver and two E3Ds would probably be less than $300 compared to getting another printer.

If you do want another printer, the Flashforge has been well received among Makerbot users.  While being a Replicator clone, it is said to have addressed several of the problems with the original Replicator design that Makerbot never fixed.

If I'd seen that before buying the SD3 I might have ended up with a dual extrusion machine!  smile

I'm not knocking my SD2. I love and plan on keeping it. Just want a bigger build area and dual extrusion for easy removable support.

I would be really interested in a step by step guide to add a second extruder to the SD3.  Anyone got one?
