a Solidoodle 2, the extruder has been changed too,  also by an aluminium version !

I've been wondering if how much faster a later generation of 3D printer could go before the melting and cooling characteristics of ABS start to be the biggest limitation, and the only way to advance would be to change material.  (Though I'm guessing even materials will only get us so far.)

I was able to triple the speed of my SD3 just by using new printed carriages that utilize real linear bearings...  and its much quieter now as a bonus!

even with the fancy printer mods, must be a relative newb. hes printing on kapton straight on the bed. lol

mmmm.. if your bed is flat , you don't need anything else... i print on kapton only all the time without any problem...

and if I did not use a heating qubd pad for a faster heating (which requires me to use a glass plate + kapton) I would still be on the original wood/aluminium bed that was flat...

there was a guy on here that posted aluminum carriages for sale... i cant find the post now, i really wish i could im really interested lol. ive looked 10 pages back in all the forum topics, even did a search using different keywords. Cant for the life of me find that post again!  dude wanted like 40 bucks for the set.... im totally down if someone finds the post please let me know!

damn i just saw the thingiverse link! does anyone have a CNC mill that they could make those for me? ill pay $

Someone, I think his handle is 2n2r5, designed or adapted a threadless ballscrew z drive for the Solidoodle.  Someone else was offering to make those from Aluminum for about $40 if I remember.  Are you maybe thinking of that?

looks like Lawsy or what ever his handle is. hes always pushing the envelope. seems high speed would cook the motors and board

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Up until the point they don't develop good torque because the amount you need to step ahead of the stature is too great a distance, stepper motors will actually run cooler when they run faster ^_^. You tend to (most drivers) put a constant power into the devices so if they're actually doing rotational work then it means it doesn't all go to heat. And, practically speaking, at higher speaks you can't put exactly 100% power in (so the power input is a little lower.)

But that said, those speaks might still push the ability of the motors to put enough torque in, idk. Looks cool
