Topic: Rubicon 3D scanner

Hi guys,
Wanted to announce a new campaign at indiegogo.com/projects/rubicon-3d-scanner/
What do you think about it? Will it sweep makerbot's digitizer off the marker?

I think whatever Interest I would have had to back the campaign has just evaporated...

Robert (I presume - Mikelson - the creator of said Campaign) , its a bit poor form to sign-up and Spam a Forum - even if it is a Kickstarter and Indigogo Campaigns - but hey - that is just me...

Would have been a lot nicer if you'd been a contributor to the forum before just coming along and spamming us for some crowd-sourcing-cash....

It's not just you.

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

I don't mind people posting about their campaigns in the buy sell trade section, they need to get the word out to the kind of people who will be interested.  Just be honest, and don't try to pretend its not yours.  You might think the "social proof" aspect of someone else expressing interest is more effective than ordinary advertising, but the faking will damage your credibility if it is found out, and it isn't very hard to spot.

If you really want to use sock puppets to promote your campaign, at the very least use a vpn service to show an IP from a different location, and don't post on the same day you registered.

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

Yeah, an announcement would be one thing, this playing at being a disinterested party reeks of disingenuous scam.

Sorry for the incorrect posting. Changed it to an announcement. Cheers. )

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

Interesting project, looks pretty polished, but unfortunately, the misguided push attempt here, makes it loose credibility.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

Would be nice if it had independent third party reviews/beta testers.

Not sure how else I could convince you that I'm not a phony. )

You can see the scanned models here

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

Rubicon or markerbots scanner, one or the other haven't enough precision to give a real interresting result, I already have a david laser scanner , it's quite the same.
To have a result that will give all satisfaction you need an industrial camera that cost , at least, 700/800 €(800/900$) or else you don't have enough precision, you also must know that you still have to do some work on  the 3 model after it has been scanned.
A real good 3D scanner will cost 3000/4000 €, it have 2 or 3 camera and 3 to 6 laser, so there is quite nothing to do to reduce the price.

It depends on your needs for accuracy and budget. )

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

You may take a look of what accuracy you really have with low cost 3d scanner, they always show you perfect scan from simple objects and they are not telling you how much works they have done on the scan result to provide a good render, but when you try with more complex object and without doing some work on the 3d object the result is really différent.
Of course if you only want to scan garden's dwarf it's OK but when you are going to try some complex forms the result will be far from you're desire even if you don't need  good accuracy.
At least you can have quite good results with only photos and the software that use this kind of process.

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

If it were on Kickstarter I might get in, but on Indiegogo [at least on this project, as with most], your money goes in whether or not the project funds.  Too much risk without some assurance that the project and seller are a pretty sure thing.  Nothing personal, but we know nothing about you other than that you're able to post things on the Internet.

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

On Indiegogo, like Kickstarter, it depends on the project, how it was set up, whether the funds are returned (Fixed Funding) or not (Flexible Funding).

Incorrect, Kickstarter only has all-or-nothing. There is no equivalent of Indiegogo's Flexible Funding.

A large number of project creators choose flexible funding on igg, which leads to the post above - igg has become synonymous with flexible funding. It is really the only reason to choose igg over KS, since KS gets way more eyeballs.

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

I knew someone was gonna call me on that.  In addition to what elmoret said, the project in question is set up that way.  Sure, there can be other indiegogo projects that aren't that way, but not germane here.  But I should have worded it more precisely, sure.

Re: Rubicon 3D scanner

I funded it

I love the simplicity and it beat the ridiculously overpriced maker bot digitizer.

Don't hate me

I just like the idea and price that's all

I wont speak for anyone else but I don't hate you.   In fact I think that if it works as advertised for $200 I'd gladly buy one.  The truth is; I'm skeptical.  Simply having a better optical camera doesn't mean it will WORK better.  The WFC (AKA Pretty Picture Camera) on the Hubble Telescope "only" has a CCD of ~8.3MP (well ok, it has two of them); but that doesn't mean this thing is going to be rendering the Butterfly Nebula anytime soon.

Add in the lame "look what I found which I'm totally not affiliated with" marketing ploy and at best; I'll wait until a few of them are in the wild before considering putting my wallet on the table.

I stand corrected Tim, along side Hunter, oh the shame. Techbuilder, I don't hate you either but that's a damn poor endorsement.
