Topic: Newbie would like advice before buying!

Hello all,
I have been looking into 3D printers for awhile now and am hoping to make my choice before the end of the year. I really like the SD 3 because of it's low cost, user support and large build area. What are your guys suggestions and advice for a complete newbie? I am by no means a computer guru but I am slightly above average when it comes to computers. What is the best software (free) you can recommend for building 3D models? I have a little experience with sketchup and I find that a little bit frustrating at times. also I see a lot of posts on ways to improve the SD, is there a more consolidated place with all this information? Thanks in advance guys!

I'm like you, i bought mine a month and half  ago revived it 2 weeks  ago. (best ever thing I ever bought)
I'm a total noob, the s3 is super user friendly (well sort of) if you roam and use the search option on this forum you can find nearly every solution ...

my advice print spare part of the s3 first, it's a great way to learn to use the machine and also it is very recomanded. especially the extruder part, as the acrylic one is not that good. (still using mine) but I have another  just in case.

the printer is very good for 0.3 mm print, but for 0.1(reliable) you need to upgrade some part.

and get a sheet of cheap glass on the bed cost nothing but it's a life saver.
go to the wiki read it then you will know what to do next.

Thank you very much for the advice. being that you bought yours recently, what improvements does it have over the original? what OS are you running and did you have any software issues? My biggest concern is software related smile I am afraid I will brick something by selecting the wrong options! I will definitely take your advice with the glass bed and printing spares. have you enclosed your SD3 yet? I hear that helps the quality of prints some be holding in some heat.
