Topic: Is there a best way to assemble a model that comes as multiple pieces?

I am printing the skull from thingiverse that has like 5 object pieces to it. Would gorilla glue serve to bind the parts together? I am concerned for the amount gorilla clue expands when it dries. Any suggestions?

You could use a special ABS glue, a few are mentioned on the forums.

or you could use Acetone and ABS slurry.

or Super Glue

or my favourite.. Tarzan's Grip.

Does it expand when it dries or will it behave? Common uses for it?

It behaves very well for plastics, sets quick, doesn't expand, very strong.

I use it for gluing magnets into 3D printed fridge magnets smile

I also used it for my vacuum cleaner attachment that i printed in multiple parts.

Aren't model airplanes and such made with ABS?  Testor's model cement seems ideally suited as a result.

I could be wrong, but as I recall, model airplanes are made of styrene. But the glue is, I think acetone based, so it should work.

I've used superglue and an ABS slurry.  Both work fine for bonding the pieces together.  Superglue is faster, but the ABS slurry seems to have a stronger bond.

Since ABS is mostly styrene I guess you could say models are sort of made from it smile

The Polyurethane glue he's using is probably the same sort of stuff as Tarzan's grip smile

Something to keep in mind when designing the parts is that all of the corners are slightly rounded so there will be a small gap where the edges come together.  The exception is the bottom edge at the bed.  If you can arrange things so that two faces that join together can both be the bottoms of their prints, you will get a more seamless join.
