Topic: Very slow extrusion

Hello. The extrusion on my assembled filastruder is very slow. I may be getting 1"/Minute at max. My tempature is at 180 (+/- 1 degree). I've had pretty bad luck so far on my Filastruder and am hoping to get this fixed. Any help is great. THanks

Which motor do you have? The old motor does that speed.. New one should double that.

No, the old motor definitely should not do that speed at 1.75mm filament. It should be 7"/min or better.

Harry, have you tried running a drill but through the nozzle to break up any contaminants?

1/16" if you are making 1.75mm filament. Has it been very slow from the start, or has it gotten worse?

How has the kit version been for you?

Hey, just drilled it out. Heating up now. I'd say it's gotten worse. The kit version has been working pretty well. I need to re-print a hopper extension for it still.

if you look at the motor, is it sitll spinning?
1inch a minute sounds like the motor is not spinning at all..
recently my rectangle washer warped.. and the motor was spinning without moving the auger, can you visually inspect if your motor is moving the auger, and if it's moving at all

My money's still on debris that is too big to pass through the nozzle. You might have to take the nozzle off and clean it out, unfortunately.

Here's an embarrassing potential solution. I started my motor a bit too early once, causing the auger bit to tighten down the pipe. I didn't realize it, but the groove in the pipe was turned all the way upside down! No new pellets could be retrieved from the hopper and eventually, the nozzle was feeding very slowly simply by "oozing." In other words, check and make sure you haven't run out of pellets, and that the pellets have a clear path to the pipe. A dead giveaway for me was looking at the wires from the heating element and thinking, "Didn't those used to be at the bottom of the pipe?"

If that doesn't work, do what Tim says and clean your nozzle.

I had similar problems with slow extrusion. First I tried to drill the nozzle with a 1.5mm drill and then with a 1mm drill. Clumsy as I am I managed to break both drills tongue smile

Then I removed the nozzle as described by Tim here: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/3580/abo … trudercom/ and pulled out a hardened plug of plastic and some soft, contaminated plastic out of the pipe coupling with a pair of pliers.

To clean the hole in the nozzle I put the nozzle back, heated it up and used a 1.6mm pin punch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch_%28metalworking%29) to carefully push the clogged plastic back through the hole into the pipe coupling. Then I disassembled the nozzle again and removed the broken drill.

I don't know if using a pin punch in this way is bad in any way and I haven't had time to extrude since I did this so I have no evidence that this actually worked but at least I got rid of the jammed plastic and a lot of metal debris.

During this process I thought what if the struder came with an extra nozzle with an extra large hole, just in order to simplify the cleaning process? I have no idea if the extra cost is justifiable, just a thought.

nice daniel,  i like the idea of pushing plastic back while disassembling nozzle.
for me, i didn't take off nozzle, i just poke the nozzle hole with sewing pin while the motor is running and circle around and stir it. Next inch or two will have contaminent in it.. ^_^ not a complete solution like yours
