Acetone Vapors/Steam Cookers.

Is there another version of this using a different steam cooker? Also would a respirator be just the type of plastic/clothy face mask one might use when spray painting a house, or something that actually feeds in oxygen for breathing?

People have used rice cookers, egg cookers, basically anything that doesn't have an exposed heater area and can be completely closed off.  This allows you to confine the vapors and re-condense to finish your pieces.

As for the fumes, just use it in a well ventilated area and you won't have too many problems... If you have to, keep a face mask handy, but if you can uncover and remove the part without sticking your face in the cooker, you won't have much of a problem at all.

It used hot water rather an an electric heater to boil the acetone, though that's a lot more trouble.  The main difference is using a chilled copper coil at the top to contain the vapor.  It creates a zone of cold air which the vapor cannot cross without condensing back into the pot.  The presto is a lot easier to use, I can have a print smoothed within 5 minutes of getting out the pot.

You don't have to use kapton at the bottom, just something smooth to keep the holes in the steamer basket from leaving marks on the bottom of the print.

There's a shot in the other thread of the rice steamer I use.  I got small glass plates from the dollar store and set them on a small metal rack.  Works pretty great.  No Muss no fuss

That is a particulate mask. It filters dust.

You need something that filters organic compounds if you're going to wear anything, though doing it outside is plenty safe.
