Here is my CNC cut version of the Filastruder Enclosure

Re: Pic of CNC cut Filastruder Enclosure

Why an  Filastruder Enclosure?

Is there advantage to having/using one?

Is it intended to hold in the heat? Or would that be bad and require a cooling fan?

Now if I ever get my QU-BD RPM 3D printer CNC mill I'll learn CNC milling on a enclosure.

Can anyone share their G-code?

BloomingtonMike that enclosure looks great.

Advantage is purely cosmetic.

It is purely the look is why I did it.

You really need to create your own G-code from the DXF files. Import them into your cad/cam software and generate them based on your feeds and speeds and machine definitions and based on the material and layout you choose.

Of course, just shows you my inexperience, thanks Mikei.

Now to see if my version of Geomagic will import DXF files.

Re: Pic of CNC cut Filastruder Enclosure

Ralph, let me know what I can do to help you out.

What are the size constraints of the RPM I forget? Also what softwarae chain will you use? The milling is still very questionable about how that will work on a RPM and with a Azteeg X3 controller I am wondering how that will play out. I use a Gecko G540 on my castcnc Joes hybrid I built. I also use Mach3 and vectric Aspire and Vcarve pro.

There is a lot of open source software for cnc and 3d printing out there.

Re: Pic of CNC cut Filastruder Enclosure

Thanks Mikei, I really do not have the slightest idea what I will be using. I have tried looking at all of the options but I have been concentrating on learning 3D modelling when I have time at my computer. But right now the weather is so good I am working outside more on a endless list of projects including putting together a workshop for my RPM and my Filastruder and hopefully my Simpson. so the CNC is taking second place in my priorities.

Believe me I will be begging for help once I get everything settled. Probable more likely this winter when I be inside more.

Oh I think the RPM is ~12x12x12!

Re: Pic of CNC cut Filastruder Enclosure

The sides are 22"+ long so You might have to get creative to cut them out - maybe index the cut or something like that. A bunch of the QU-BD guys will be in the same boat very soon (I hope soon) so the milling solutions will come for sure. I will be glad to share anything I have done on my CNC machine.
