Topic: Optical Endstops

Anyone ever use an optical endstop before?

How would is differ from the stock endstop? Any advantages or disadvantages? Or is it really just same same just different hardware.

SD2 w/ mods: Rumba controller, ATX PSU, SD pro case, glass bed, with more to come...

Will be prone to getting dodgy readings if you get plastic 'strands' in the gate - which does happen. I'd be inclined to use hall-effect over opto's if I was for some reason shying away from micro-switches (with or without rollers).

Other than that, just one of a littany of end-stop setups you can have...

Glad to know about the plastic strands. I came across them in a google search. Aside from just having a cooler name it's doing exactly the same thing. I'm happy with my stock endstops so I won't change them. I was just being curious.
