Topic: making 3d model from 2d picture

I know it cant be that difficult but im not sue where to start. id like to take a 2d image of text and extrude it into a 3d model. nothing fancy just so it will sit up on a desk.

I have solidworks 2013 and netfabb studio basic. I think I DLed Blender too.

Google software called BMP2IGES.  A german program that will do exactly what you want, its free.
