Topic: Can I go to the solidoodle office (physically) for help?

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to the 3d printing scene, looking to purchase something for home use in the 500-1000 range.  Obviously, a little internet research has put the solidoodle on my radar.  However, I am a little concerned about some reviews where people have had serious problems out of the box, and had to take months sending it back and forth (at their own expense) before they got it working.

I am not averse to having to do some tinkering, but I don't want to have to spend an absurd amount of additional money and time just getting basic functionality, and I fear the possibility of getting a non-functional device and simply in the end not being able to figure out how to fix it.

What might put me a lot at ease and cement the solidoodle as my choice, is that I am moving to NYC in the near future.  I will be within reasonable travel distance of the Solidoodle office in Brooklyn.  So I'm asking, does this actually help me any if I'm in trouble?  I.e. can I just roll up to the office with a broken Solidoodle and get help?

Question 2:  If I'm talking to solidoodle support (on skype, etc.) and they tell me to ship it to them to look at, would I be able to deliver it and pick it up in person then?

Probably not, and I doubt they'd say that anyway. This forum is a wealth of knowledge, someone has run into every problem imaginable and posted about it. A simple search will yield a solution 99% of the time.

Ok, thanks again for the quick response.  I asked because one of the reviews I read mentioned just that scenario, and he ended up having to wait months to get the issue resolved.

Well, being able to come in person would have made the decision an easy one in favor of solidoodle, but even without that, there's a reasonable chance I'll go with a solidoodle anyway, for the price point alone.

Most replacement parts you might need can be bought cheaper and quicker from other sources, or printed.  If something breaks, ask around here first.

We generally do not arrange factory visits. In some extreme cases we have allowed customers to come in for a tune up. We do, however, in several situations allow for mail-in tune ups. We may offer this as a service via the store at some point.
