Topic: Solidoodle 3 realistic cost per hour

Has anyone tried rolling up a realistic cost per hour to make things on the printers.  There are plenty of people interested in me making stuff for them and I was wondering if anyone has come up with something fair for the 2 or 3?  Based on how things have been going now, its be very trouble free for me, but at some point things will break and wear since this really isn't an industrial machine.

The material you can calculate out, but I was just wondering if people have come up with a good number per hour.

Re: Solidoodle 3 realistic cost per hour

I uploaded the customers STL (3 Hour print) to Shapeways to get their price they would charge $118 so I told the customer
I would print it for $60 (filiment cost $3.00) so that is $19 an hour

Ultimaker S3.

I change them $1 a gram so they can't say I am cheating them.

Re: Solidoodle 3 realistic cost per hour

well 19$ does seem a little high.  For a business trying to make money you would need to go higher, but if I don't value my time that much 10 seems reasonable.  Thanks for the info.

I only charge as a way to finance my next printer.

For those of you charging/running a business, How did you start it out. I was thinking of offering a service to friends/family/Facebook friends to print. $10 and hour sounds reasonable to some. What about design and print together. Something like $20 an hour?
