Topic: Anyone have a 3D model of the solidoodle?

I want to design an extensive modification to my SD3 and wonder if someone has already done a model of the chassis.  I can do a reverse engineer of it my self, but never hurts to ask if someone has done it already.

I didn't put the x-carriage in yet and the holes from the bed frame to the alu. platform aren't accurate. Everything else is pretty close. Still have to put in a bunch of work to finish it.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

can you out put that as something solidworks can use?

Open in Sketchup (its free). Export as STL using the plugin. Millimetres (I hope!) and STL. Or try the DXF/DWG export (YMMV...) Or Use meshlab (its free) to convert the STL to DXF or DWG then follow the standard 'how do I import DXF to Solidworks' tutorials smile

I have tried exporting STLs from sketchup and have yet to find a converter that makes useful parts form them when imported into solidworks.

Wish solidworks could just edit STLs directly.  Or at least reference lines and surfaces off of them.

Try going via meshlab as a DXF/DWG...

Just opened it. It's a nice model and should serve the purpose well.

Re: Anyone have a 3D model of the solidoodle?

adrian, the problem with STL is that it is an inaccurate faceted format so getting it to work in a read design program like SolidWorks is hard.

nLancaster, I wouldn't mind having the Solidoodle as a real solid model as well.  It might be nice to set up a grabCAD project of parts for others to contribute.   Some of the off the shelf parts we might be able to find in the Cadenas or Traceparts catalogs.

I don't have the time to do the whole model of the Solidoodle but would be happy to contribute some of the parts.

P.S. I use Solid Edge but we can easily share files if you don't mind losing the history for anything I do.
