Topic: Best filament prices

Where did you get filament and what price did you pay?  Was it PLA or ABS? How was the quality?

I thought I'd start a running thread on where to get the good prices for quality filament for Solidoodle printers.  I hope you will post here as you get more material.

Just ordered some red translucent PLA from makergeeks for $35.95  Octave was $36.50 after shipping. I may get some ABS from them later just to compare.

Re: Best filament prices

I have been talking to makergeeks people and they maybe getting some of that SoftPLA from FormFutra that does come in 1.75mm.  http://www.formfutura.com/3d-printing/f … black.html. The makergeeks people seem friendly and I ordered and got a few things from them. Now just need my SD2 to try the stuff out

Re: Best filament prices

In the UK, the cheapest I found so far was Amazon, at a store called 3D writer.com ltd. That was £34.10 (per kilo) with shipping, but I bought a few spools, as they had glow in the dark filament at the same price! So it worked out at £32 per kilo.

There's cheaper on eBay. I think the best there was £24 per kilo with shipping, Not sure of the quality though!

Re: Best filament prices

http://makibox.com/printing-supplies

$16 / kg

It is manufactured by them using their own filament extruder. I haven't tried it but for 16 bucks, I might pick up a couple kilos.

2n2r5,

That is an awesome price. If someone tries it and reports back, I'll get some too.

Re: Best filament prices

I just put an order in with Makibox. They are in Hong Kong so my average price was $22/kg shipped. I says 4-6 week lead time plus there is shipping. I will let you know around August.

Re: Best filament prices

Also, can people post their experience with different filament.  I've heard the quality can really affect a print (how many air bubbles it has, water, etc).  So while cheap is good, it's not the only factor.

Re: Best filament prices

When I looked into the shipping at Makibox and because they are in Hong Kong and I am in the USA the shipping alone was $25 per item plus the $10 per roll. For $35 I can get some filiment now and not waiting 4-6 weeks. But maybe that has improved or it's just because I am in the USA.

I ordered 6 x 1kg rolls which and shipping came to $35. I don't need filament for a little while so I don't mind it taking a bit to get to me.

Re: Best filament prices

Got my Makergeeks.com PLA on Monday, so it is fast shipping. Free sticker too. I'll guess I'll put it next to my Apple sticker.

Re: Best filament prices

I've got 8 rolls I picked up from the poorly named repraper.com.  You can also find them under Reprap Wallmart.  My ISP filters their DNS, I assume because the url contains "rape" but I use Google DNS and can get there.

Others have reported contaminants in their repraper filament but I've had zero problems so far and am probably about half way through four of my eight rolls.

Cost about $25 Canadian per roll shipped.

How about clear filament?

Re: Best filament prices

How about a good clear filament from the usa? I would rather buy from a company in the US. Faster shipping and I would trust the company more.

Re: Best filament prices

I bought this clear ABS through Amazon from Zen Tool Works. http://www.amazon.com/Printer-1-75mm-Tr … r+filament

I haven't had time to try much printing with it yet through. Just a small part. Don't expect it to be crystal clear though and because it is clear, it takes a while for your hot end to clear previous color. I printed before mine was completely flushed out and ended up with some color from a previous run mixed in.

Re: Best filament prices

I got some of the $27.99 + free shipping on ebay and have had no real problems other than being a newbie with it. They only have four colors but shipping is only about 3-4 days from MO to IA. Check it out as I am looking to save money. The last I ordered only took 2 days.
