Topic: Restart a print

I had an temp error after 200 layers of a 300 layer print. I found where to restart in the Goode but the printer would crash in to the print while moving back to the new start point. How can I get the bed to move to right level before the extruder moves to the right x,y coordinate?

Re: Restart a print

I had a similar interruption on a large print (but it was due to failure of the power source) and admittedly I crashed the extruder into my print a couple of times before editing the G code just right.  I finally got the printer to extrude at the proper layer height however, even with a hot gun assist to heat up the previous subsequent layers, they did not bond well.

In the end, I went back to my 3D cad file and produced an STL for the remainder of the print and epoxy attached it to the first half of the print that was interrupted.  In my case I was using ABS and after roughening the interface with sand paper at little bit the 2 halves bonded very well.  If you have access to the 3D cad file this approach may save you some grief and machine abuse. I'm sure there are many ways to handle this problem, my $0.02.
