Topic: SD3 Print Head

Hi,

I just received my SD3 a few days ago and all is going well so far.  The only thing I did before printing was a bed leveling and and extruder feed rate calibration.

So far, I have only 3 questions:

1 - Regarding the filament, since I live in Canada, I've been looking at a cheaper way to get my filament than importing it from the US.  One supplier near me has ABS filament but the stated printing temperature is 230-250C.  The SD3 docs suggest not to go beyond 210C.   What makes the SD3 different from others that it can't reach higher temps?  I can't seem to be able to post the link to the filament but the supplier is called voxelfactory dot com.

2- I noticed that the fan located at the rear of the print head never starts even when commanded so in Repetier's 'Manual Control' if indeed this manual control is for this fan.  Should I be worried about this?

3- I noticed that the print head 'rock' from back to front a little since the second rod support is not touching the rod itself.  Is this normal?

1) This should be fine. The actual temperature of the machine is somewhat higher than what the software thinks it is.
2) The manual control is not for the fan - the fan should be running at all times. Most likely the leads on your Fan have been reversed in the factory. You may switch them, and the fan should roar to life.
3) Yes, it is normal, as long as the rocking is not extreme.

For the fan, where exactly should I switch the leads?  At the fan itself or at the controller?  If at the controller, which connector?

Never mind, I found it,  There was an 'F' on the connector but it was not visible since it was reversed.  I just hope I didn't damage anything by using it for a few days without the fan.  It could be part of the setup procedure to verify that the fan is working since the connector is not polarized.

You're good, the fan just helps the filament not get so soft it strips.
