Topic: Heated bed
Hey everyone
Does anyone know what is inside the SD3 heated bed? Is it simply a resistive element or is there some sort of electronics?
Thanks

simple circuit, just resistive element and thermistor for feedback.
ok great.
Basically I am having problems with the bed not being able to heat up enough to keep the filament sticking to my glass bed. (especially near the edges ~2 inches) The bed also takes forever to heat up so what I was looking at doing was purchasing a 15V DC power supply to power the entire unit. I was looking at the schematic and it appears that it is possible to increase the voltage. I do not see any real show stoppers. I pulled my heated bed off of the controller and hooked up my 6A bench supply. If I apply ~15-16V (5.3A of current) I could get the bed up to 110 with out it I have a hard time getting it to 100.
I did get a QU be 8x8 heated bed which I am thinking of replacing the heated bed in the SD3 however I would rather like to avoid major modifications to the SD3. I did make an enclosure which did help significantly but it still has issues.
for a test just throw a 12v automotive relay(don't forget the clamping diode) on the SD12V out(old bed power) to switch your 16v and leave the thermistor circuit intact.
but be careful not to put too much wattage into the bed...
Im thinking about changing out the heated bed with a QU BE bed that I purchased. I bought a few new power supplied and a relay to use. Now I just need to print that adapter people posted for it.
