Topic: Ordering / Importing into the United Kingdom

Hi all,

Has anyone imported a solidoodle to the UK, I've been researching for a little while and would like to take my first leap with the S3 machine?

I'm specifically interested if anyone had to pay import duty, I believe they are duty free but vat is payable can anyone confirm this?

Is there any spare parts or other accessories I should be ordering at the same time?

I've loads more questions but will post in individual posts, I would love to know if anyone else is from the UK i'm in west yorkshire

Thanks very much!

Andy

I had to pay 119£ when it arrived in Sweden (25% VAT). UK i think have about the same import rules as Sweden.

I dont know about the filament, but i dont think its a good idea to order the filament in same order.

I bought filament from Denmark, very pleased with the filament. BUT DONT USE THE BLACK ABS FILAMENT!! My extruder is now in small parts trying to get the nozzle clean, and i have to buy new acrylic parts also.

Re: Ordering / Importing into the United Kingdom

Yes you have to pay import duty not vat. Annoyingly you have to pay duty on the item PLUS shipping.

I forget exactly how much I had to pay but on an order (with shipping) of around $650 I paid around £85 duty. I have no idea what the exact percentage is but I guessed at 20% and it was lower than that so I was happy.
So all in it still worked out to be just over the £500 mark as the exchange was a little worse back then.

Spare parts, well I haven't broken anything and most extra bits you can print. As for filament I am using stuff from a company in London

Any questions just ask away, we're all here to help.

Did you go to the MakerFaire over the weekend? If so I might have seen you there.

wrong way around Zarni.

There is no import duty, it's not an item that attracts duty, (think alcohol / tabacco).

however there was a VAT fee to pay, on top of that there is a clearing charge to pay because Royal mail pay the import VAT for you, and then charge you £8 for having done all the paper work.

mine cost £92.22 in total.
(I remember because I wrote it in this thread http://www.soliforum.com/topic/467/fina … -reiview/)

Sorry, I was wrong, thanks for pointing that out Danny.
I could have sworn it was the other way round, no idea why I though it was the other way round.

Thanks guys.... Impulze if I have my printer I would print you the part! Perhaps there should be a dedicate thread for people who broke something and fellow members can send out spare bits? No I didn't go to makerfair (didn't know it was on, I'm in Yorkshire so its a bit of a trip for me)

Has anyone ordered filimant from formfutura?
