I ended up buying from another member who decided 3D printing isn't his thing.





Hello!

I realize only ~500 printers have shipped so far, but I suspect that means there are at least 150 in the east coast of the U.S.

I made my order on August 23rd, and I've gotten confirmation from customer support that,

"August orders will start shipping next month.  We are currently shipping orders from a backlog of orders from May.  We will start shipping orders from June this week.  Orders from July will start shipping later this month.  Orders from August will start shipping by the first week of November.  I hope this helps."


My story is that I'm a mechanical engineering student who took a semester off from Uni because, well, I was a bit burnt out and uninspired by my classes.  So right now I'm having a blast working at a local engineering firm and doing some electrical engineering and software programming sort of stuff. Genuinely grateful, but also slightly off-topic.   

I'd like to get more into cadwork however, and I was hoping to get my printer to start making a few parts. I'm thinking that if by chance, and I know the chance is small, someone who was maybe too busy to get much use of it right now, would sell me their 2nd gen printer I could pay them some sum for the priviledge of starting to print a month earlier than I otherwise would get the chance.


So let me know! Would you send me your printer for a premium and I'd have my printer sent to you? What would that premium be? We could arrange it through a solidoodle customer support email, so you know that I seriously have a printer on order from august 23rd.

(I have the version without doors but with heated build platform [essential]. $560 or what not.)

Keep a sharp eye on Ebay.  Someone just sold one for $650 with a Buy It Now.  He had a BfB Touch, and bought 2 Solidoodles, then decided he didn't need that many and sold one.  There is another guy who is going to list on Ebay as soon as he receives a new nozzle to replace his clogged one.

Thanks for your idea. It's not bad [though stretches my finances]. I am however concerned that maybe through ebay I would get less support in the long run. though, if anything goes wrong, it'll hopefully be a machine I'm intimate enough with to be able to fix myself. That actually sounds a bit awkward, but let's brush past the fact.

My preference is on swapping out with someone for some cash, but I will look into your suggestion as well.

The other problem with this scenario is that there is zero chance your printer will arrive when they say it will. Read through this site and the Google group to find many tales of broken shipping promise with delay after delay.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA .. dreaming.
maybe .. before christmas. unlikely though.
I doubt anyone who has one will want to sell it for a fraction more just for the priviledge of maybe getting another in 3 months, your best bet would be buy one and cancel your order.

I am at 19.5 weeks wait. sorry for any bitterness..

Not even all of june orders will ship by the start of november. I dont see end of august orders getting done any time soon.

So, I apologize for my slow responses. been to a wedding, had a huge crunch time on my project, and managed to go camping for 3 days. Wonderful time, but I haven't been following up on the forum. If anyone would like to more readily contact me, send an email to tab(ASFHAGFHAFA)35@duke.(LBAlhfdAdsf)edu.  Obviously exclude the parentheses and anything inside of them.

So the not shipping when they say they will is the cause of my starting this up.  I do however think that they are finally catching up to orders, and the revised shipping schedule (very recent- from 2 hours ago on facebook, but also roughly what they told me two weeks ago when I emailed) has them moving august orders in november. Yes, this would be 4-6 weeks delay for you to get another printer. So obviously there are limited situations that someone would be interested in this. But maybe you're in classes right now and want to make a few bucks and a friend before winter break, when you'll finally have time to do some prints. I don't know.

Yeah, you're bitter. I'm sorry. You also did order before they had any of the assembly situation down under. Which is rough, I know. But yeah, it's somewhat, well, whatever, you're bored waiting for yours.

Righto, so actually all of the june are set to be done by Nov8, and August orders start Nov22. That's pretty impressive imo.

Less impressive when your realize that there are very few June orders, and July as well. Summer was a slow time for us.

EH? I was trying to rationalize feeling good about the bummy feeling as a customer that things come in so slow tongue. But you're indicating the revised schedule is no big deal.
