maybe, but if it means decent mods and better parts, it may well be worth it.

The people of this community work together to make a better machine.  Lawsy certainly didn't have to share his build of the MK1, 2, 3, or 4 extruder replacements, but he did and most of us appreciate this.  Solidoodle wants people that work with their machines to test upcoming mods to machines they're selling.  I, for one, would like to be in on this to see what's coming and if I have to pay for the parts to do it, then I don't mind.

You aren't forced to participate, 3dprinter4life.  We all know what we're getting into with this project and if it means better information for the community to have people who actually USE the equipment talk about it, then we're all better off.

Just know that you're participating to help someone else's bottomline...

As I said, we all know what we're getting into...

You registered today, all you have done is bash on how terrible the solidoodle is.  What gives?  Do you work for makerbot?

I say we ban this kid right now to set an example...

Open your eyes. I'm not saying anything new that hasn't been said, but i am shocked at how many of you ignore these facts and just keep putting up with horrible service for products that even at their cheap price point are too expensive!

My eyes are open. What I am seeing is a guy with no credibility on a forum full of Solidoodle 3D printer owners bashing on the printer and the company.

please ban...

You want to ban someone who is contributing their experience and ideas and trying to warn others... sure go ahead take the information away from the people.

You haven't posted anything of value. All you've done is bash the company. What were your experiences with your "Kit of a Solidoodle"?

Kind of like software companies do? It is a proven business model!

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

I'm interested in Beta testing stuff, as long as the shipping charge isn't too bad for the UK.

I can get a bit carried away with reporting back issues and development solutions though as I deal with control systems development all day for work.

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

Beta test all you want...it won't fix the root problem...your terrible support staff.

I can't say much, but I think we have some designs that might excite you in this department.

I'm in the same position here, I would be happy to help, but shipping to the UK might be expensive. (it needs to be better than the existing store shipping options)

Actually it probably will, beta testers would be able to document fault with the parts, create instructions, possibly better instructions, note weak points or faults that develop...

beta testers test evaluate and document. all of these things may help to provide better support.

My biggest concern is the shipping costs.

Third time's the charm!

If I quote this, will I get on the list?

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

I really believe tester should pay to get these beta materials.   However I don't think testers should pay more than half of the final cost.  This way the beta tester will be more glad they participated and get the discount for unfinished products.

no one wants to pay for an unfinished product, knowing in couple months it will be out-dated/improved.

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

RavenCrest - someone with a bit of sense. Yes Solidoodle should be paying people to test. People should not be paying solidoodle to test. It's bizarre that some people on this forum seem to think it's okay for a corporation to take advantage of them...

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

when i was hardware beta tester, the company send me the parts (free/ no shipping cost) but they ask me to answer a survey on this part (how i use it, solidity , feeling.. etc etc...) in a time frame (in general, one week)
sometimes, they ask me to return the parts (at company cost)

it's how i paid the parts, with my work... i never pay for a beta test (software or hardware) and i will never...

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

I'd be interested... as long as I didn't have to wait 2-3 weeks for support.  However, I'm with the above folks --- Solidoodle's approach to this is all wrong.  Send the parts you want tested for FREE and then require a survey / report on how well it worked, how easy it was to install, what the issues were, etc.

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

For those of you who are sharing tinkerers, especially the American ones, I advise you to get something in writing from Solidoodle regarding their position on any intellectual property you might be exposed to and your future liability should you use any of that knowledge in modifications that you might want to share with the community.  One could potentially lose the rights to their own idea by providing it as feedback.  Remember they are a "closed source" company.

47

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

I would also like to be a beta tester.

We're still working out ideas for testers, and most likely the first bunch of testers will get to talk to us a bit about the exact process. Most likely there will be a form of some sort.

We promise, Solidoodle is not the sith. We're here to help, and this is one way to get ideas from the community.

Re: Beta Tester Program Feelers

I would be interested in beta testing.  Especially in the case of the new nozzle design that you have hinted about.  Of all the things to improve the reliability, this is the best place to start.
