Topic: Loose Wire?

I actually don't remember this wire hanging loose like this before. I was releveling the print bed, and I might have knocked this loose. I don't know what it does, or where it goes.

Re: Loose Wire?

Thermistor, I do believe... should be attached to the hot end to register temps for your software

Re: Loose Wire?

Yup, needs to be attached to the nozzle with kapton tape. Do not use the printer until you can do this.

Inside the sleeve of the extruder or literally the outside of the nozzle? I really don't know what this looked like before. I don't have any kaplan tape other than the precut sheet I purchased for the bed. Any pictures of how it is supposed to look?

Re: Loose Wire?

Look at the photo for step 4 at this Makergear assembly page.

Newer models have a resistor and aluminum block instead of the ceramic blob heat core in that photo, but the thermistor on the brass nozzle is the same, placed directly against the metal, wrapped with kapton tape to secure it, and then the sleeve is pulled over it all to insulate it.

Actually I don't think the wire is long enough to get under the kapton tape around the extruder right before it becomes a cone. Only north of that with the bigger retangular piece. Will that be the same temperature?

Re: Loose Wire?

My apologies, the thermistor should go on the aluminum block with these - so, yes that's the right place.

Alrighty. I will I hope I get this in the right place and don't burn the house down. lol. It seems like something like this should be fixed into place with more than tape, you know?

Re: Loose Wire?

Where is the best place to go for Kapton tape? I've already been to Lowe's, Radio shack, and Napa, and nobody has heard of the stuff.

Ebay is cheap and good.
http://www.grainger.com has local stores that can get it in a couple of days.

Would you recommend uline.com? I order some from them and they charge $8 for a roll that costs $20 at granger, and even kaptontape.com charges as little for the tape. They do however charge $20 for shipping though. I ordered from uline this time. I wonder why it is so difficult to even find people who know what this stuff is.
