Topic: A difficult to design part

I have an engine design I modeled in TC many years ago, and have always wanted to build one to test its functionality.  It is an external combustion (steam or air pressure) 6 cylinder engine with no crank shaft, but rather relies on a cam shaft and bearings.  The challenge is to have a flat surface for the bearings to run on, realizing that said flat surface is only at the bottom edge of the bearing only at the top and bottom of the travel.  At 90 degrees, the raceway contacts the bearing at a 45 degree angle on one side or the other.  Anyway, long story shortened, this became a very difficult cam to model, and here is my first attempt.  I invite ideas to improve the design.
I somehow managed to get the image in twice.. sorry.

Re: A difficult to design part

I fixed it up using Rhino, but all I did was modify your piece, I didn't rework the entire thing. This is made evident by the yellow circles in the first panel which shows a perfect circle in relation to your design. Unless you have your solidoodle setup to make PERFECT circles I cannot imagine the small of a difference will matter. I hope this model helps. http://i.imgur.com/s9afsR5.png
your model is the dark blue one

dang, I can't submit files, so this is a link to it in Thingiverse. I can remove it once you have downloaded it if you want.

This is an attempt to post a video of the overall engine design.
