How would everyone suggest I print this design? It seems like it would be nothing but 90 degree overhangs and I have nothing but trouble trying to make those work. Is there a way an object like this could be sliced into a bunch of cylinders and assembles piece by piece afterwards?
simple way : cut it in half on the lenght and glue it after printing
or print the dark side one
Is there any easy way to handle support material? Perhaps I am not using the software correctly, but between clicking the support check box and not, there doesn't appear to be any difference. Actually I'm partial to printing Luke Skywalker's saber. I'd like to make the blade out of glow in the dark plastic in time.

Could you give me directions on how to for sure turn support material on? I am not sure if it is as easy as clicking a check box or if I need to play around with some number values too based on the specs of the model.
All I ever do is check the 'Generate support material' box under /slicer config/print settings/support material, then make sure you have some values in the right pane... pattern=rectilinear pattern angle=0 pattern spacing=2.5mm .. I think this is what I use usually.

in slic3r, you need to go under 'print setting' tab, then on the left choose 'support material'
on the new screen on the right, check the box 'generate support material'
you can change the 'overhang threshold' .. it the angle that launch the support generator or not ( 45 = generate a support for am amgle of 45 or up) ... i choose 50
you can add a 1 raft layer as it's better for the stability of the support

I use slic3r. I really wish this printer used a softer material that for support that is different from the model material. Maybe something that melts at only a little more than room temperature so I can melt it away afterwards rather than try snipping away with plyers and pretending it looks alright. lol.
