do you need to recalibrate the extruder every time you change a roll.

Every time you switch rolls you should measure the OD of the filament in a few spots to get the average and put this number into the slicer, it actually isn't a bad idea to check the roll you are using every now and then just to see how much the rolls of filament vary... and change the number if needed... I have got filament from certain suppliers that half way through a roll the average changes over .15mm, for best printing results the slicer has to know exactly what size filament it is slicing for.

I always run this and adjust the filament extrusion multiplier.
