Topic: Buying ABS Filaments??

Where would everyone suggest getting ABS filament that works the best with Solidoodle? I ordered 3 rolls of filament and the tools kit from Solidoodle.com and haven't gotten anything yet. I ordered some materials to help modify my printer from elsewhere about a week after ordering the filament and received those materials already and Solidoodle hasn't even shipped the filament yet. I was understanding when the printer took time to be shipped because it needed to be custom built with mostly in-house parts, but I only ordered the filament this time and it is taking forever.

Is octave.com a good place to order? I have a particular interest in more exotic plastics such as metalic colors with luster, transparent colors, and this glow-in-the-dark ABS octave has. Any suggestions?

One of the best! Never an issue with any of their stuff.

I use alot of Octave and I like it.  The gold is really a yellow with a bit of shimmer flecks.  Their glow in the darks work well and I have no issues with their black.

Never an issue with Octave, or Solidoodle?

Can anyone suggest a good place to go for transparent ABS and metalic colored ABS? Not just an orange/yellow color, but something that will look silver or gold if I were to print a trophy or something. lol.

I would just paint the finished print with metal looking paints as it would look better or electroplate it if you want a real metal look, the metallic filaments to me just don't look very good anyway.

+1 for Octave.
I have pink, black, red, blue and white/glow in the dark. The pink i have issues with as its diameter fluctuates wildly.
I get it via Amazon dat cam.

...sativas are for smoking!

Amazon.com (Octave, Zen Tool-Works) are both very good.  I just got in some of the PLA from Justpla.com (also ordered from Amazon) and it is excellent.  (best spool the plastic does not unravel all over the place when starting a fresh roll) I've seen yet from any supplier and non-wholesale packaging).  I noticed they are offering ABS as well at 31USD a roll shipped for PRIME members...can't beat that by much without a filastruder.

Who's we, and what website are we talking about? I'd like other people's opinion on any product I consider buying.

What type of paints work on ABS plastic. I tried painting a white model green with acrylic paint and it really didn't stick well.

Re: Buying ABS Filaments??

I bought a huge pile of various ABS from repraper.com and haven't had any trouble and it's soooo cheap. I've never heard any first hand problems myself, only "I've heard from others that they know a person who knows someone that has a friend whom had trouble with it.". But at their price it was worth the risk to me and it very much paid off.

They have glow in the dark, transparent, thermochromatic, UV reactive, and even electrically conductive!  The gold is more like a weird brown with an odd metallic luster to it and the conductive has an almost uselessly high resistance.

Also: When it comes to mods there are two must haves in my opinion: Lawsy's MK3 or MK4 minimalist extruder and glass with hairspray print surface. The stock extruder is so delicate and kapton is a jerk.

When you say "worth the risk" what do you mean? The risk to the printer, or the risk that it simply won't print correctly and you'll have to go back to ABS plastic that Solidoodle has said works according to their standards?
