Topic: What do you know about OUYA?

I was looking at the kickstarter after seeing the OUYA Game Console Enclosure at Thingiverse.  It's just basically an android engine that can play the android titles on your TV or is it more than that?

I'm not a big gamer but I have a son that is and he's got a birthday coming up.

With the tech, it'll be a neat little set top box...

It'll give you web TV apps, Hulu, Netflix, etc... (I think)

A surprising number of developers working on games for it.

Open source on the software and hardware side, so if you want to take a look inside and tinker around physically or with the software you can.

Runs the Tegra 3 Processor (The Newer Tablets) which is great off of battery power, but a whole other beast when running off of wall power, so I expect large performance games over tablets.

In all, it looks to be a nice little machine, I'm hoping to get my hands on one soon as I don't use my Xbox enough to justify paying for Live, and I don't have a Web enabled TV.

Well the webTV apps and something for the little kids to play with like learning games would be enough for me.  I'd like to get my older son into developing games or something other than telling someone there's a sniper behind the barrel and I can't believe I got killed that I hear non stop all day long.  I'm familiar with the Tegra 3 processor and that's what got me interested.  I'm never going to be a gamer myself I just don't take to it, but this looks pretty cool for a cheap price.

From what it sounds like, it'd work great. I'm a fan of the price point personally and the overclocked Tegra 3. It'll be cool to see who in the industry is working on games, but it is shaping up to be a neat little machine.

Re: What do you know about OUYA?

The little video said that it's very price prohibitive to work on a game for an existing console, but that everyone can develop for android.  So you should have a near limitless supply.  The only thing that OUYA is controlling is that some portion of your game be free.  It's interesting I was just wondering if anyone has been following the progress here or if there's already a subculture building around it before the first units are shipped.  Looks like they're shipping on Friday.

I'm going to keep my eye on it.  I would think that some of the hardware hackers here would be all over it.
