Topic: Just some of my beginning prints

I seem to have a bit of banding, I think the firmware will fix this. Any suggestions as to tweaks I might wnat to make would be greatly appreciated!

One of the first, un-calibrated prints

Another uncalibrated print ( I was just excited to have my printer so I plugged it in and went)

First Print with a glass bed, and no peeling corners!

I started the Saturn IV bottom stage, but it decided to go free at the very end of the print hmm
More to come... Hopefully.

Re: Just some of my beginning prints

Looks good! How did the bottom of the Companion Cube turn out? Mine have always had the non-flat bottoms, so they have been not so good looking only on the bottoms.

Well, to be honest,  used the "easy to print version" Aka Flat Bottom http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:13588

And it turned out well, Here it is with a bit of paint on, courtesy of my friend. Oh, and my new aperture long that's on my key ring

Ahhh, yea, I didn't find that stl until after I printed a few normal ones! I like the paint on it.

What stl did you use for the aperture logo? I printed one that does not have the space at the bottom of the ring. Ugh, tough to explain! Here... http://tinyurl.com/acybgz3 on the lower part, close to the table it sits on, there are not spaces between the leaves of the aperture. I like the design of yours better!

Re: Just some of my beginning prints

Off topic....I find it literally hysterical how many people end up printing 'companion cubes' from Portal as their first prints.

If you think about it, I did it as my first used SD2 print.

Obviously the topic poster did it.

One of my students did it months ago.

It's a really great part for it.  With the over hangs, the curved hearts and the circular bumps in each of the faces.

Centuries from now someone's gonna find a pile of ABS 'companion cubes' and speculate on their reason for existing.

Danger: 'Addams Family' sense of humor.

I've never been much of a gamer.  I got heavily into Quake3 when it first came out, building maps and writing mods etc.  But that was in between girlfriends.  Aside from that period I'm not really a video game kind of person.  My 17 yr old spends 10hrs a day playing so maybe I should print him one to see if he can still blink and we can let the indentation in the couch cushion breathe a little.

Here you go (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12414) Their picture doesn't do it justice.

I Know what you mean. However, it's funny to see how my father has went from "Why did you spend $600 on something that's going to be useless" to "Hey can you print me this, this, and this..."

LOL!
I'm not much of a gamer either, I only get one game a year. But Portal, and Portal 2 are just awesome FPS type Puzzles. It's funny, and very entertaining. http://tinyurl.com/375exxv

Re: Just some of my beginning prints

I'm looking for more things to print, I have a failed watch holder print (started warping, I guess the glass didn't heat)

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/893364_10200762599324264_973525102_o.jpg

And I used the logo as a keychain, it destroyed the ring, noting Duct tape or zip ties can't fix.

You're looking for things to print??? How many different things have you printed?
Try these if you think your SD is up to it...
http://tinyurl.com/bc2pr7j  3 Tone Whistle, this should come out sounding perfect once done.
http://tinyurl.com/4539fkv  Twisted Bottle, try it at full scale, then try to make different sizes. I have one the width of a quarter that i use for my daily vitamins.
http://tinyurl.com/b4bmueb  Cross Tweezers, try to fill the bed to make the tough version huge! Make it solid too!
And of course... http://tinyurl.com/a7nkcvx   The Pink Panther Woman! I've done her 5 times so far. For my SD2, i did .3mm, 6 perimeters at full scale and hollow, most recently in white glow in the dark filament, and she came so perfectly! Puns intended!

Awesome!

I was telling my friend yesterday that I need to start writing my "Want to print" things down, because after I leave work I seem to forget what I specifically want to print and I start trolling around Thingiverse (Unable to decide because there is so many cool things.) Now there's a list to build off of!

I've printed about 12 times (in 3 days) about 3/4 have been completely successful, the others either warped badly or fell over (Saturn IV bottom stage)

Calibrated extrusion and feed rate, looking pretty good.

A bit scared to do the full size one.

Re: Just some of my beginning prints

That looks pretty good! I've yet to go full scale on this as well!
What scale is that?

I believe it's .25, but I honestly don't remember.

What's kind of weird about all of my prints is that the front and back look a little more wobbly/crappy than the sides of my prints, which look perfect, an idea as to why?

21

Re: Just some of my beginning prints

oooh, somebody more experienced than myself would have to answer that one. But do you have any pictures?

That would more than likely be backlash from the belts not being tensioned properly(too loose or uneven between the two belts)

I'll make sure to check that tomorrow, but for now my prints are looking pretty amazing at .3mm, I'm loving it. Other than that, and some sticking issues, all is well.

Interestingly enough, I have no Z banding whatsoever, It might have something to do with the spacers they put under my Z-motor maybe?

24

Re: Just some of my beginning prints

Could you take a picture of those?  It's interesting to see any changes showing up in the latest shipped printers.

Re: Just some of my beginning prints

I really want to see what they are putting under the motor. I have some felt pads that I was thinking would work for some wobble absorption. Your prints look great!
