Topic: How to Print a grid
I have seen photos of models printed with a grid on the bed.
How can I print a grid on my hot bed to help hold the models with small footprint?

It's called a raft, and if things are set up properly, you don't need it.
If you're using slic3r you can set up a brim, which is just a couple of extra perimeters to the base layer. It's pretty easily removed and can be set to any size. I typically use a 2mm brim to make sure that I don't have any corner lift on my larger objects.
Click on the raft tab of skeinforge and click the ? button it will explain it all to you.
