Topic: My prints and some paint

After a week of trying to get an Alien head to print, I thought it would be fun to post the results, as well as the rest of my first prints.  Between the stuff in the photo, and lots of screw ups, I'm just about done with my first spool of ABS. I painted half the Yoda and half the Alien for a nice display of what can be done with 3D printing.  All these files minus one hidden in the back were found on Thingiverse. I'm waiting to get the hang of this before I start printing my own work.

Re: My prints and some paint

Were these printed at the .1mm level or the .3mm level?

Re: My prints and some paint

These are .3 mm, I lightly sanded Yoda, and the dome of the Alien. I brushed on acetone on the painted half of the Alien too and went heavy on the paint.

Very Nice Stuff! What were the print specs of the Pink Panther woman, the big one??

Re: My prints and some paint

She was .3 mm with no infill, I think 3 or 4 layers on the wall thickness.  She definantly is delicate, I could just shatter it by giving a bit of a squeeze.

Oh really. I printed one hollow, full scale, 4 perimeters and it messed up in the curves above the breasts, and along the collar bones. Left gaps where the filament didn't adhere to the previous layers.
What speed did you print yours at?

I really haven't messed with the stock settings they have for the SD3...soo it was whatever they have set it for.  I could look in to it further if you like.

Re: My prints and some paint

Oh you have the SD3, I didn't know that. Perhaps there's a difference somewhere. What software do you use, Repetier and slic3r? I'm going to reprint but try 6 perimeters and keep it hollow. This was my last attempt with the issues I had. http://www.soliforum.com/topic/1393/hol … oose-skin/

Re: My prints and some paint

I've been using slic3r.  I only had 3 perimeters set with 4 on top and 3 on bottom.

Re: My prints and some paint

Maybe i'll also slow it down. I was using 60 mm/s perimeters.
