Topic: Stall protection board adjustment

SN:3697
With everything connected-motor is turning and heater is running, what should the stall protection board readout in auto, my readout is showing 12.4U, 11.5U, 0.38A and 4.3P.  Without the motor connected, the current is showing 0A and 0P.
I tried to follow the instruction, I do not hear the click on CC pot, I can hear the click on CV pot.  So I turned CCW on CC pot many turns to make sure it was minimum, then turned CW 7 turns.
Please help!

Re: Stall protection board adjustment

Tim,  would you recommend to use a multimeter to adjust the Stall Protection Board?

Re: Stall protection board adjustment

Tim,  initially I adjusted the stall protection board CV pot 15 turns CW from soft click, CC pot 7 CW turns from soft click.  Since I do not hear the soft click on CC pot, so I turned CC pot CCW at least 20 turns, then CW for 7 turns.
Then I followed the meter method, disconnect the motor leads from terminal, connected the AMP meter between - and +, the current reading was 1.9A, so I adjusted CC pot CCW to reach 1.5A.  But once in a while I can see the Blue LED(CHSRH) flashes quickly when the motor turns.  Does this means I reach the maximum current of 1.5A?  But the current reading was about 0.49A on the display of Stall Protection Board, and the motor is only driving the auger without any load.  What should I do?  Should I adjust to 1.7A using meter adjustment method?  Can you also explain these 3 LEDs - CC/Cv, CHSRG and FULL?  FULL LED stays on Green, never seen CC/CV came on.  Thanks for your inputs.http://soliforum.com/i/?W9R2EVD.jpg

Re: Stall protection board adjustment

Tim, I did another adjustment using the meter method, I adjusted CC pot to show on my Fluke meter 1.7A, but the display on Stall Protection Board was showing 1.8A.  Therefore, I adjusted CC pot to have Stall Protection Board display showing 1.7A.  I also noticed using the meter method for adjustment, both RED and BLUE LEDs were on, GREEN LED was off.  So, the document said RED,BLUE and GREEN LEDs, RED = CC/CV, BLUE = CHSRG, GREEN = FULL.  What are these signal, CHSRG, FULL?
After raised the CC to 1.7A, when the motor turned, I did not see the BLUE LED flashes once in a while.
Am I ready to do some plastic extrusion?  But I still want to know the meaning of CHSRG and FULL.  Thanks.

Re: Stall protection board adjustment

As I have mentioned before the auger wasn't lined up with the motor, the barrel wasn't perpendicular to the block, so I had to shim the base of the barrel.  I am afraid that might not putting correct thrust to the bearing.  But at this point the motor sounds running fine, I am not putting any load to the motor yet.http://soliforum.com/i/?Pb5F751.jpg

Re: Stall protection board adjustment

I don't recommend putting any short circuit (which your Fluke in current mode would be) on the output of the stall protection board, it is not really made to handle dead shorts.

The proper way of checking the current limit is to use a dummy load, for instance the included heater, as described in the instructions.

But other than that, it sounds like you did everything fine and are ready for extrusion. I'd say there's no need to re-do the stall protection test with the heater, just that it isn't good practice to do it the way you originally did.

Re: Stall protection board adjustment

I think i have the same problem, my stall protection shows 0.7A its extruding, but very very slow.. also my barrel was not straight but while testing without pellets the barrel turned a bit so the opening for the pellets and hopper is now turned 45degrees clockwise and now it seems straight.. also no click for me at the cv pot.. how did you fix getting more A on the stall protection? hopefully it also extrudes a bit quicker then.. thanks!

The value shown on the stall protection board is the amount of current the motor is consuming at that time. It is not an allowed value or set value or limit.
