Topic: Quad Mixing Extruder ... BS... Right?

So I came across the M3D Quadfusion extruder on their website. Has anyone heard anything about this?

https://store.printm3d.com/products/qua … print-head

One thing that I noticed about the PR video that is shown on the site is that they only show a vase printing. Seems easy to have the slow color changes. That happens to be the problem with all the other mixing heads that we have seen. (please correct me if I am wrong)

I noticed the other prints shown probably aren't with that print head except for one. You can't zoom in on the site but you can take a couple seconds and find the image in the source. I can see why they didn't want the image to shown in full quality.

Just curious if I am being too harsh on them or if this is an actual thing that I should be attempting.

Re: Quad Mixing Extruder ... BS... Right?

I am not familiar with this particular product. It is a variation on the theme or holy grail of full color more or less printing.
there is the mosaic pallet that was released last summer. https://www.mosaicmfg.com/products/palette-2 $599

or the prusa multicolor upgrade $299https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/printer-upg … e-kit.html
so not a new idea exactly the execution is a bit different.

Yes, that's correct. Mixing hotends can only do slow color changes (and not a ton of control), systems that use multiple hotends/extruders can do sharp color changes, but not slow ones. That's the tradeoff, at the moment.

Re: Quad Mixing Extruder ... BS... Right?

I've extruded quite a few multi colored rolls with my Filastruder with great success. I've found the trick it to either transition from and to like colors (green to blue, yellow to green, etc), and you can use a small handful or two of virgin uncolored pellets to purge some of the old color before transitions.

In this case, some natural colored filament should do the same trick.

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

The mixing extruder can do a gradual color change by changing the mix ratio gradually. It can also do sharp changes like a multi-extruder by using a purge block. Wastes a bit of plastic but it works. Or did I misunderstand your statement?

I've just recieved a Geeetech A10M that does color mixing with a single nozzle. But I have not yet had time to play with it.
