Topic: Rafts

I used to use rafts but I have since discovered how to calibrate my bed and use glass and hairspray.

But when I did use them I had a horrible time removing them without leaving marks or even damaging and or removing layers from the model. For me the surface that is on the bed or raft is often a viewed surface.

So how do others manage to get the raft off cleanly with no marks or damage left to the model?

Re: Rafts

I have always had problems with raft so if it is a single color print i use hips and D-Limonene.
That is one advantage of having a dual extruder.

Re: Rafts

I think the raft may just be a carry over from earlier tech and earlier version of slicers. I really cannot see why anyone would use a raft now unless they just have really messed up machine.

Re: Rafts

Since I have started using glass and hairspray I have NOT had anything come loose while printing and used to have 1 in 8 come loose.

Re: Rafts

In Cura, you can adjust the distance between raft and your print, and adjust the density of the raft so that it is easier to remove. However, as long as you use raft, the bottom surface is not going to look nice.

If you have to use raft, and want easy removal and reasonalble smooth bottom, and don't have dual extruder, print a box with soluble filament under your print and switch filament. the bottom box ideally have 2-3 layer for better smoothness on surface.
