Topic: Xyzware incredibly slow

Hi folks,

since I got my Davinci Mini W I´ve always had issues with this rather crappy software. My PC should be able to handle it (i7, 16GB, 980TI).

Since I got Simplify3d my sufferings have decreased since I dont have to use xyz that often anymore.

But for changing filament, leveling etc I still need Xyzware. For the ever prevailing Wifi issues I also need it.

Let me describe slow: It is not rotating models or slicing. It is an extreme lag after pushing ANY button like "my printer" or anything on the right side menu. I click on anything and it takes sometimes 20 seconds until it responds. I experience this on both of  my PCs (the above and an i7 Laptop).

If I try google there´s nothing to be found about this except for xyzware being crappy software for everything above absolute beginner-level.

Anybody got this issue ? How to solve ?

You need a video card that supports OpenGL and has the latest OpenGL drivers. Thats what I found when trying to run it on a laptop when I made the mistake of owning an XYZ machine.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Re: Xyzware incredibly slow

Both PCs run Windows 10, one has a Nvidia 980 Chipset, the other integrated Intel-Graphics. Both should be capable of displaying 2D stuff (as I said, the 3d stuff works fine). And since both cipsets are totally different and not very old, I didnt think that graphics could be an issue.

Re: Xyzware incredibly slow

I find that talking to my mini w is almost 10x slower over WiFi than via usb. I would skip the WiFi and stick to usb. You don’t need to leave it connected during a print.

I have wondered if this is only a problem with the mini w or if all there WiFi printers are slow.

Re: Xyzware incredibly slow

I have two printer with wifi support besides Da Vinci mini W. One is MonoPrice Select mini, the other is iNSTONE Inventor Pro. When upload file though WiFi is definitely slower than USB connection because both machine WiFi only support 24GHz Wifi not the faster 5G Wifi, but I never feel my computer is slowed down. On the other hand, upload to SD card through USB connection is lot slower than copy to SD card on USB card reader.  I think Printer's Wifi chip and SD card read/write are both speed limiting factor, but I don't see why it should affect computer speed.

Even on machine that don't support OpenGL2.1, I got warning about OpenGL supporting issue and model did not always display properly. But xyzware will not slow down the computer.  In my opinion, the lagging UI interface is more likely due to your hard drive is not solid state (I'm just guessing). Other possibility include conflict with the anti-virus software you are using or the cloud drive or backup software is fighting for the control of hard drive.

Xyzware is a problematic software, and I don't like it at all, but if restart the app does not solve the problem, there is system conflict in your windows and mostly likely some apps that you prefer but not on many others system.

BTW, david.tucker's miniMover can do most of the things you depend on xyzware, give it a try, it is good.

I´m using USB most of the time since Simplify3d has issues with the Wifi connection.

My PCs all have quite fast SSD´s and no additional antivirus software beside the one that comes with Win10.

It seems that nobody has those issues which is rather puzzling...but I´ll try MiniMover, thanks !

Re: Xyzware incredibly slow

my XYZware software seems fine to me, I am running it on a clean install of win10 (after a hard drive crash I replaced the existing drive with an SSD and reloaded windows 10) this is over the USB lead. I was having slow opening issues, but that was just before the hard drive died.

Re: Xyzware incredibly slow

Do a clean install of Win10 is definitely a good idea, make sure you have installation disc and cdkeys for all important software you paid. SSD usually don't die easily, but it is important to double check if TRIM is enabled for Win10.

If every other app on your computer runs fine except xyzware, try uninstall your current version and install a relative older version and see if problem still exists. Or just stick with miniMove + Simplify3d.
