Topic: is it worth upgrading my Makerbot 2X with this.

is it worth the money to replace the plastic X axis (original part) with this aluminum one or do I have to worry about the difference in weight?

Thanks

Re: is it worth upgrading my Makerbot 2X with this.

If it is not broken, don't fix it. I see too many people trying to upgrade the machine with expensive fancy parts and accidentally damaged other part. Themositor wire and heating element wire are top victims and sometime motherboard.

In other cases, the new expensive fancy parts did not see difference or actually decrease the print quality. Unless your current plastic X axis is known to have issues, I don't see why replace it with aluminum one will give any specific advantage.

You can always do the upgrade if your stock carriage broken. You will have different expectation with the replacement part by then and will not feel as bad if you did not see improvement in print quality.

Re: is it worth upgrading my Makerbot 2X with this.

My machine is a CT'c clone of yours. The only things I have done to it is changed the controller to an Azteeg X3 Pro and a Viki II LCD both from Panucatt Devices. I also changed out the extruders to MK10 extruders and put the aluminum stiffeners on the sides of the bed. It's now the best machine I have owned and is my work horse.

Looks like Fargo is out of stock for the item, try these if it take long time to find the right part.
