Topic: Upscale an STL

How do I resize an STL file?

I have a print that I would like to be at least half as big again so it has bigger container space.

Not to be smart but the same way you do with any other printer.

in your host  in the object placement screen seelct scale then set the scale you want then slice.

Re: Upscale an STL

I found it.

Suddenly its going to take over 8 hours to print something that is half as big again that takes 2 hours when regular size.

Think I will print it normal size...

Re: Upscale an STL

Mind you, the last print took 4 hours when it was billed as being 2 hours...

I think that the devs are over optimistic with their estimates.

Re: Upscale an STL

Keep in mind that scaling up is proportional to the cube  ie 2x is really 2^3 or a 1 hour print doubled in size will take 8 hours.

Re: Upscale an STL

... as I found out.

There are some files that I have got that are broken, one complained about something not being a manifold.

So I looked up repair and despite following a couple of tutorials, still none the wiser on what is meant to be happening as the one tuber talks in a weird English accent that even I can't make out their dialect. If you are English and can imagine someone with a Glaswegian/Geordie/Liverpudlian type accent, you get the picture...

And you hear comments like "you see here" and no indication of what the guy is referencing.

Basically its a container that a friend wants printed off, its the only one that I could find that he liked with exception to the lid that has an embossed logo on it that would really be better as something in relief.

I don't see how I can edit it to remove the embossing or add a surface to the top to cause it to infill.

These files are somwhat common and relatively easy to repair.
I am using repitier host 2.0.1 with sli3r 1.2.9 this has built in repair utility that works well. simply click on the repair tool icon when it warns of a non manifold file then save the repaired file then slice again.

The other option is download netfab basic and use that to repair your files a few more steps and they have the export as an stl file option in a kind of hidden place but not a bad program to navigate, This seems to be the popular standard.

The other option is to use cura  or another slicer this can make a difference as well.

there are also meshmixer and mesh magic  that have been free downloads in the past. meshmixer is an auto desk  product and was part of the 123d design suite  so may not be supported.

lesson number 6 not all thinverse files are printable.

Re: Upscale an STL

Nettfab Basic for repairing

Blender for editing.

Would probably take me less than 15 minutes to do both.

Re: Upscale an STL

You can also try slicing it anyway and ignore the warning. Preview the gcode file in your host software. If it looks ok, there is a good chance it will print ok. I have an object I designed myself that gives this warning but prints just fine.

I use an online print fixer, you get something like 3 free fixes a month

this is the one I use, though I have only ever had to fix files I have not created myself.
